Required Documents
To officially have a legal wedding the following documents are needed:
Long-form Birth Certificate
Must be issued within the last 3 years.Declaration of Marital Status
Must be issued within the last 3 months.
For singles: a letter from the Vital Statistics Office confirming you have never been married.If Widowed:
A death certificate of the former spouse.If Divorced:
A divorce certificate or final judgment decree.Full-Color Passport Copies
For both partners.Witnesses
Marriage Hall: 2 – 4 witnesses
Outside Venue: 6 witnesses
All witnesses must be 18 or older.

To ensure a smooth and timely processing of your marriage application, please review the following legal requirements for submitting your documents:
Document Submission Timeline
All documents must be original and must be received by your wedding planner no later than two months prior to your scheduled wedding date.
Before sending originals, digital copies should first be submitted via email or WhatsApp for verification.
Apostille & Legalization Requirements
For U.S. Couples
U.S.-issued documents must carry an Apostille Stamp issued by the relevant Secretary of State.
For Canadian Couples
Canadian documents require the following:
An Authentication Stamp from Global Affairs Canada
A Legalization Stamp from the Dutch Consulate in Canada

We strongly recommend using a reliable courier service such as DHL, FedEx, or UPS when mailing official documents.
Regular postal mail can take up to six weeks and does not guarantee secure delivery.
All original documents will be returned to you along with your official marriage certificate.
Registering Your Marriage Documents Back Home
Your wedding in Sint Maarten is only the beginning of a beautiful new journey together. To help make your transition home as smooth as possible, we’ve prepared a simple guide on how to register your marriage documents in your home country.

Three (3) translated copies of your Marriage License
Each license includes an Apostille Stamp, confirming that it has been officially legalized under the 1961 Hague Convention

Every country and state has its own specific requirements, but the steps below are a helpful general guide:
Register your Marriage License
Submit a copy to your local Vital Statistics Office / Vital Records Department.Update your driver’s license
Contact your Department of Motor Vehicles to confirm which documents you’ll need for updating your name or marital status.Request an updated Social Security card
If applicable, apply for a new Social Security card reflecting your name change.Update your passport
Complete the required Passport Amendment or Validation Application.Notify financial and service institutions
Update your information with:Car registration authorities
Insurance companies
Mortgage or loan providers

Update personal records and services
Contact your post office, utility providers, and voter registration office to ensure all records stay current.

There are many different ways to get married on Sint marten/Saint Martin.
Whether a cozy beach wedding, luxurious mega yacht or cruise-ship wedding or extravagant Villa wedding, the possibilities are abundant!
If you are getting married at the Dutch side of Sint Maarten the following documents are required:
What documents do you need?
- A long version birth certificate not older than 3 years.
- Declaration of material status not older than 3 months – single couples must present a letter from the Viral Statistics Office which states that they have never been married before.
- If Widow(er) a death certificate
- If divorced, a divorce certificate or final judgment decree
- Passport copies
WITNESSES
Witnesses – If the wedding is performed at the Marriage Hall, minimum 2 and maximum 4 witnesses are required.
Outside the Marriage Hall, 6 witnesses are required. Witnesses must be 18 years or older and can be provided by ‘Sint Maarten Luxury Event Consultants’ if none are available from the bridal party.
LEGAL PROCEDURES
All documents have to be originals and should be in the possession of the wedding planner (The Sint Maarten Luxury Event Consultants) no later than two months prior to the actual wedding date.
All US documents require an ‘Apostille Stamp’ from the Secretary of State.
All Canadian documents require an ‘Authentication Stamp’ from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and a ‘Legalization Stamp’ from the Dutch Consulate in Canada.
All documents must be uploaded in our request form for verification, before sending us your originals.
We highly recommend to use DHL, FeDEX or UPS or a similar courier service when sending us your official documents. Regular mail takes up to 6 weeks with no guarantee of arriving safely.
Documents will be returned to the couple together with the marriage certificate.
How To Register You Documents Back Home?
If you are getting officially married under the Laws of Sint Maarten, Sint Maarten Luxury Event Consultants will provide:
3 translated copies of your Marriage License.
Each Marriage License that you have received from us has an Apostille Stamp at the rear. The Apostille Stamp signifies that your Marriage License has been legalized under the terms of the “1961 The Hague Convention”
In order to register you Marriage License in your Country or State please follow the steps below:
- Please submit a copy of the Marriage License to the Vital Statistic Office/ Vital Records.
- Contact the department of motor vehicles for a new driver’s license. Please ask in advance which documents you’ll need to bring in order to certify the validity of your name change.
- Request a new Social Security card or cards reflecting the name change.
- Obtain and complete a Passport Amendment/Validation Application.
- Change your name on your car registration, with your insurance and mortgage companies, and with your frequent-flier programs.
- Contact the post office, utility companies and registrar of voters.
